HOT
WIRE INSTRUMENT
It
is used for the measurement of current at high frequencies i.e. above the
frequency range of MI and electrodynamometer Instrument.
It consist of two wires and joined together at one end. First wire is made up of platinum irridium it is fine and long in nature. Other end of both the wires are connected to the terminals t1 and t2 respectively pulley with spring is used.
Current
to be measured is allowed to pass through the two wires. This heats up the fine
wire and it expands. Sag of the wire is magnified and expansion is taken up by
the spring.
1.
Measures AC current and voltage at high frequency without error.
2.
Not affected by stray magnetic field.
3.
It indicates rms value of current.
1.
Sluggish response
2.
High power consumption
3.
Instability due to stretching of wire.
