Electrical Network

Definition, Circuit diagram, Terms

The interconnection of two or more simple circuit elements is called an electrical network. Circuit elements are voltage sources, resistors, inductors and capacitors.

ELECTRICAL NETWORK

The interconnection of two or more simple circuit elements is called an electrical network. Circuit elements are voltage sources, resistors, inductors and capacitors. The simple electrical network is shown in fig 1.4.


Branch:

A part of the network which connects the various points of the network with one another is called branch. In fig 1.4 AB, BC, CD, ... are called branches.

Junction point:

A point where three or more branches meet is called a junction point. In figure 1.4 junction points are B and D.

Node:

A point at which two or more elements are joined together is called node. In figure 1.4 A, B, C, D, E and F are the nodes.

Mesh or Loop:

It is a set of branches forming a closed path in a network. In figure 1.4 ABEFA, ABCDEFA, BCDEB are the loops of the network.
