FERMI
DISTRIBUTION FUNCTION
Definition:
Fermi function F (E) represents the probability
of
an electron occupying a given energy state.
To
find out the energy states actually occupied by the free electron at any
temperature (T), we can apply the Fermi-dirac statistics. The Fermi-dirac
statistics deals with the particles (electrons) having half integral spin,
named as Fermions.
Thus
we can write the Fermi distribution function (i.e) the probability of an
electron occupying a given energy state as
............(1)
where EF is the Fermi energy
KB is the Boltzmann constant.
