Classification of Inverters

Analog Electronics

There are different basis of classification of inverters. Series inverter and parallel inverter and further broadly classified as current source inverter and voltage source inverters.

CLASSIFICATION OF INVERTERS

There are different basis of classification of inverters. Series inverter and parallel inverter and further broadly classified as current source inverter and voltage source inverters. Moreover it can be classified on the basis of circuit configuration (half bridge or full bridge), nature of output voltage (square, quasi square or sine wave), type of circuit (switched mode PWM or resonant converters) etc.

Single-phase Bridge Inverters

According to the orientation or connection of semiconductor devices to form inverter circuits, the inverters are classified as:

• Bridge Inverters

• Series Inverters

• Parallel Inverters

Out of the above three types, bridge inverters are quite popular and are used majorly. Thus, here we will discuss the bridge orientation of voltage source inverters.
